DVD Volume 4: Robert Scheer and Richard M. Ebeling - Restoring the Republic 2007
In June of 2007, the Future of Freedom Foundation held one of the most important conferences in the history of the libertarian movement, "Restoring the Republic: Foreign Policy and Civil Liberties."
For the past several decades, U.S. foreign policy has included support of dictatorial regimes, brutal sanctions and embargoes, invasions and occupations, terrorist "blowback" against the United States, severe assaults on civil liberties and the Bill of Rights, suspension of habeas corpus, torture and "rendition" of detainees, indefinite detentions, and kangaroo military tribunals.
With the ever-growing debacle in Iraq, there was never a better time to come together to share ideas on restoring the limited-government, constitutional republic envisioned by our Founding Fathers. When you review our list of 24 speakers -- libertarians, liberals, and conservatives -- you will see that this one one fantastic intellectual experience that can be now be relived through this 12-volume series of DVDs.
Robert Scheer covered presidential politics for The Los Angeles Times for thirty years. He is the author of six books, including: With Enough Shovels: Reagan, Bush, and Nuclear War; America after Nixon: The Age of the Multinationals; and coauthor of The Five Biggest Lies Bush Told Us about Iraq. He is a Clinical Professor of Communications at The Annenberg School at the University of Southern California. Scheer is a nationally syndicated columnist currently based at The San Francisco Chronicle, Editor in Chief of Truthdig.com, a contributing editor of "The Nation", and cohost of NPR-affiliate KCRW's "Left, Right, and Center".
