Transforming Traditions

Beginnings: Children's Stories From Matthew and Genesis

Authored by Dr. Elizabeth Caldwell, Dr. Theodore Hiebert

Transforming Traditions is a biannual journal designed to be a kaleidoscope held up to the light of theological inquiry. Each issue is funded by work done by students in the process of learning. Every volume reveals both new patterns and perspectives on a particular field of study and a community working out faithful responses to contemporary questions.

The quality and breadth of this series is a reflection of McCormick's curriculum and is born out of an understanding of ministry that is Reformed, Ecumenical, Urban, and Cross-Cultural. Read these stories and you will see church leaders being prepared for the most challenging, rewarding, and diverse calls found in Christian ministry.

This book includes 12 of the stories written by the members of the Reading the Bible with Children and Youth class. In one way or another they tell familiar biblical stories in ways they have never been told before, because they are so careful to take account of both the historical and modern audiences of these stories. We are excited to make them available to a wider audience. We hope that even the youngest among us will grow up with the ability to hear, interpret, retell, and learn from the stories of our faith.
