About the author:
Nancy 3. Hoffman is the Director and Curator of the world's only Umbrella Cover Museum located on Peaks Island off the coast of Maine. The museum was founded in 1996 when she discovered that she had a few umbrella sleeves she didn't know what to do with. Ms. 3 has an unflagging dedication to the mundane, to amusing people and to offering people this unique cultural attraction.

Nancy 3. changed her perfectly normal middle Name (Arlene) to a middle Number in 1992. The change fit in well with her penchant for doing unusual and amusing things. She also loves the fact that it translates into any language.

Nancy 3. (as she is commonly known) is a musician (singer, accordionist, pianist and musical director). She performs with The Casco Bay Tummlers Klezmer Band, playing Jewish folk music of Eastern Europe. She is also the founder of an accordion ensemble known as The Maine Squeeze. Her one-woman rendition of "The Mikado" by Gilbert and Sullivan was produced at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. She has performed internationally as a singer and accordionist.

She did in fact go to college, at Brown University and the University of Michigan, where she majored in music and architecture. In her earlier years she helped designate and put on the National Register of Historic Places the Old Town District in Key West, Florida, as well as the Art Deco District in Miami Beach, Florida.

Nancy 3. lives on Peaks Island, and winters in Key West, Florida. You can find her music and more on YouTube. Visit her on Facebook. Also three websites featuring her are: www.cascobaytummlers.com, www.mainesqueeze.com, and www.umbrellacovermuseum.org.

The World's only Umbrella Cover Museum actually exists on Peaks Island, Maine. You know those little sleeves that new umbrellas come in? Those are the umbrella covers. There are hundreds of them in the collection. The museum is dedicated to celebrating the mundane in everyday life, to finding wonder and beauty in the simplest of things, and to knowing that there is a story behind every cover. Director and curator, Nancy 3. Hoffman (her middle name IS Three) conducts this fully illustrated tour. You'll feel like you've been there, right down to the museum's theme song at the end of the tour.

This witty and whimsical guide to the quirkiest museum you've ever been to makes a perfect coffee table book - for a very small coffee table.
