About the author:
I lost out on a pot of money a while ago when a horse named Mister Anthony (@80-1) lost by a nose at the wire-- exactly $38,000. That was years ago but I still think about it, mostly for fun. I worked as a measly veterinary hospital assistant then, cleaning crap out of kennels. Then I got a job as a newspaper reporter, so I went from cleaning crap out of kennels to covering the most boring event in the history of the universe: the city council meeting. In 2005, I made up for The Infamous Misfortune that was Mister Anthony running out of gas down the stretch. I sold my tiny condo on the north side of Chicago, cleared $87,000, and moved from New Hampshire to California. I've been living as cheaply as possible, for the most part, in Los Angeles and Hermosa Beach, Calif., and writing like a fool, ever since.

The Glitch

Authored by Ed Pilolla

Paul was lucky. And his best friend wasn't stupid. Paul's best friend needed him tonight. A slot machine on a riverboat casino was malfunctioning and no one knew, except the two rejects. Too bad they were underage. But when you want something badly enough in life, sometimes you have to risk it all and maybe even die trying.
