In the dark of the night a teen girl is taken. On the other side of town another teen escapes his own abduction. Although neither knows of the other their destinies are intertwined by fate and political corruption.
Detective Stan Brookshire is called on the scene by the Chief of Police himself. He and his partner, Jane Trinity, set about putting together the pieces and connecting the two cases. They soon find that it is more than a simple kidnapping for ransom and that it is a plot to gain political favor in the victim's home country of China.
While our young victims learn the truth of their heritage Stan follows the trail all the way to Beijing. Ready to get on a plane and put an end to the plot he is told he must allow it to go through the proper channels and leave it with the local authorities to deal with. Stan never having been one to listen to authorities when he believed they were wrong sets his mind and sights on Beijing with the young boy in tow.
A near miss at the airport leaves Stan wondering if it is all worth it, but when he comes face to face with the man behind it all he is reassured and redoubles his efforts to see it through to the end. Against the wishes of his superiors and the Chinese government Stan continues onward in the hope that he will get to the girl before it is too late.
