The Challenge of Life's Journey: The Resident's Perspective

In their final years of life, some older adults are no longer able to live independently in their own homes. Falls, medical conditions, or a deterioration of physical strength often necessitate moving to a safer environment where care can be provided. For many, the transition to assisted living or a nursing home can be a fearful time and a difficult adjustment. In this program, fifteen older people ages 75 to 100 years old share how they have successfully met this challenge of life's journey. Hearing about the emotional and physical challenges these seniors have encountered provides for professional and family caregivers as well as volunteers an appreciation of the vital issues which need to be addressed.

Appropriate for professional staff working with the elderly including: nursing home staff, assisted living staff, or staff in senior day care programs. Also appropriate for students in professional training programs of social work, nursing, administration, physical therapy, occupational therapy, geriatrics and gerontology. Church programs, volunteer programs and famiy caregivers will also find this program useful.
