About the author:
A father of two, Dave Kovar is known in the martial arts world as the Teacher's Teacher. Since 1978, he has helped over twenty-five thousand students of all ages develop their character and fitness through his Kovar Satori Academy of Martial Arts schools. His innovative Successful Life Skills and School Safe / Street Safe programs have been widely adopted by schools around the world as the standard for character development curriculum.
Dave's parenting philosophy was forged during his childhood by parents who Dave describes as sweet, kind and firm. His father, Leonard, is a psychologist and minister who had been a P.O.W. during World War II. Dave s mother, Loraine, worked as an educator who was later in charge of the Head Start Program for a large public school system in Northern California.
As Dave's father became successful and highly sought-after in his fields, Dave and his siblings moved several times with their parents. The experience of moving frequently made Dave acutely aware of the difficulties a child faces, especially when he or she is the new kid in school.
Taught by his parents to have respect for health and fitness at an early age, Dave has spent his adult life perfecting his approach to helping parents guide their children to better physical, mental and emotional fitness.
In A Dad's Toolbox for Better Parenting, Dave has incorporated the attributes of black belt excellence into a set of practical tools to support dads in helping their kids reach their full potential. His tips and guidelines are easy to follow and every dad will benefit from Dave's experiences and insights.
