About the author:
Gail Cauble Gurley is a Rowan County, North Carolina native. She has a BA in psychology andMasters in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She married EdwardGurley III in January 1971 and they have one daughter, Denise, who lives in Houston, Texas with her three children, Charlie, of the U. S. Marines; Spencer and Madison. Gail worked for many years for the state of North Carolina as an adult probation/parole officer and retired in 1995 to pursue her dream of writing.
She is an award winning writer, worked for several years for two small town weekly newspapers, and has had numerous articles published in magazines. She is employed by the Courier-Tribune newspaper in Asheboro as a feature writer. She is the author of three works of fiction as well as co-author of a screenplay inspired by her racing book, Red Dirt Tracks. The movie "Red Dirt Rising" was released in May 2010 and on DVD in January 2011. Her latest book, Old South Comfort Food, fulfills a long dream of editing and preserving the recipes of her youth from a treasured church cookbook. The Blairs are stranded in New York after the market crash of 1929. Robert walks to the river docks each day, seeking work to feed his wife Ellen and their four year old son Stephen and pay the $8.00 rent for the slum in which they live. Their faith and courage are tested as they struggle.
He provides a small Christmas for his family but then the dock work shuts down and he is desperate to find work of any kind.
He is approached by a stranger who will direct and influence the Blairs in a startling manner. He is jolted by events that promise to turn his life asunder, shaking the foundation of the person that he is. He is in an unknown world, given information of which he has never dreamed.
