Just a Housewife
Reflections of Bettie Wilds, a 1950s Mom
Patricia Callahan Walkenhorst
Imagine you are a housewife in the 1950s. Bettie Wilds is; a real housewife when "just a housewife" means you are the responsible heart of a home and the necessary center of a healing, growing world that survived with honor and pride the Great Depression and World War II; a world at peace, at last.
Join us as we delight in the joys, laughter and tears of Bettie as she scribbles simple poems and observations, often on prescription pads and envelopes. Some of her poems about loss and joy, family and prayer get published and some are left unfinished. But when finally put together, they tell with great intuition the true story of what it is like to be a real housewife experiencing The American Dream in that magical and much too short era, the 1950s.
