About the author:
Janet Rice Carnahan was born into a large family in a small northern California beach town as a fifth generation family member in the area. She has two adult children, one son-in-law, and her first grandchild on the way. Her married daughter lives in the Denver area and works in the Denver Public Schools. Her son is in Los Angeles, working in the film industry. Janet has three college degrees in child and human development-related fields, including a master's degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. She created, ran, and owned a nationally accredited preschool for ten years, teaching in the field of early childhood development for twenty. Janet's lifelong studies continued as she followed her deeper interests into the human experience, which included years of studying metaphysics and spirituality. Janet is also a master Reiki teacher. She did an eighteen-month internship with a shaman and ran a women's spiritual circle while offering spiritual counseling for three years. She went on to study with an Indian guru for thirteen years, spending a total of five months in India at his ashram. Currently, five of Janet's greatest passions are being in touch with those she loves, writing, spending time by water, photography, and healing work. Her poetry has been published in five online sites: "Pyrokinection"; "Jellyfish Whispers"; "The Mind{less} Muse"; Three Line Poetry"; and "The Camel Saloon". Her work has also been included in three published anthologies: "Prompted: An International Collection of Poems"; "Backlit Barbell"; and "Storm Cycle". She has also been credited with the cover photograph and caption on "Prompted ...".

Janet now lives on Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands with her husband, Bruce, a retired physicist. Together, they recently completed Healing Touch, Levels I and II at Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in La Jolla, CA. When they aren't visiting her children, family, and friends on the mainland, they spend their time doing a brief version of Tai Chi and Chi Gong as well as Kundalini Yoga. Their other activities include: walking by the ocean, going to the beach, exploring the island, and taking photos for the poetry books. Additional interests are contemplating the meaning of life together and continuing to learn, grow, and develop through their healing work and quiet life on the island.

Shadows in the Sanctuary

A Hidden Piece of Peace

Authored by Janet Rice Carnahan

This is the first of a four-book series, The Way of Wonder: Moments of WOW, describing the aurhor's experience of the aspiration of the soul. The overall subject has been separated into the four parts to enhance the reader's understanding of the multifaceted journey.

Poetry is used throughout the four books as the medium for telling the story of this evolution. The symbology, the rhythms, and the flow of poety all are highly consistent with the message of the books.

In this first book, the spirit is awakened to recognize that something is beckoning from outside itself. This is the genesis of aspiration. The reader may gain insight into the challenges and rewards once the acknowledgement of the higher calling comes to usher in the ultimate surrender: responding to the soul's aspiration, at which time it becomes a loving collaboration.
