About the author:
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Perry grew up in rural Mississippi due to his parents moving for his father's work as a minister. At age 14 the family moved back to Jackson where Perry went to and graduated from Forest Hill High School in Jackson.
After high school Perry held several jobs until he went college in his late twenties, including serving in the Mississippi Air Guard as an Aircraft Loadmaster on the C-141 Starlifter. During his military service, Perry participated in Hurricane Hugo Relief, flying supplies to the Virgin Islands, receiving the Air Force Achievement Medal. He also served in Operation Just Cause, the invasion of Panama in December 1989. Perry's military service ended after serving in The Persian Gulf War, also called Operation Desert Shield/Storm.
It was also while in the Air Guard that Perry met his wife, Kathie, while on a trip to England. She was on temporary assignment with the Ohio National Guard and Perry was a member of the aircrew assigned to fly her unit back to Ohio. The two met on the airplane shortly after take-off, and talked for hours. Yes, hours. And that conversation has been going on for over 26 years.
While still in the guard, Perry went to college following a call to ministry. He began attending, first Hinds Community College, and then later transferring to Mississippi College where he graduated with a BA. While going to college, Perry served as a minister in some rural country churches.
Next, he and Kathie, along with their two sons, moved to Ft. Worth, TX where Perry attended and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with his MDiv. While at seminary, he pastored briefly in Mineral Wells, TX until he made the decision to put more focus on his studies and took a position working for the seminary. He worked for campus security and as interned as a graduate assistant. After seminary Perry served as a pastor in Illinois and later in Iowa.
It was while in Iowa that Perry first got the bug to write. At first, first it was a way to deal with stress, a form of escapism. Later, more stories began to fill his head and he felt this was his true joy in life.
Today, Perry and his wife Kathie reside in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
