About the author:
A survivor of the Cubicle Wars, author Tim O'Toole is a retired New York State bureaucrat, who served seven governors (and far too many commissioners). His previous literary efforts include scintillating, provocative columns for the Albany Times-Union concerning politics and religion, plus in-house satirical jabs at government (or are they satirical?).
O'Toole's modest proposals have been likened to Jonathan Swift and he is fond of puns, alliteration and honest politicians. He favors long sentences with parentheses and short chapters to make up the difference.
He also firmly believes footnotes need not be restricted to history books and research journals. He firmly believes a few other things, but that is another story.
An apprentice pundit - working on his professional curmudgeon certificate, samples of O'Toole's shorter works are available at www.1ceman.com or www.timotoole.org.
But wait! There's still more! Check out THE AMERICAN POPE, a timely novel about a secret society of liberal Catholics plotting to take over the Vatican and reform it in ways Martin Luther never contemplated. A work of fiction?
Never a risk-taker, our protagonist Sullivan, sought to escape the agony of mindless bureaucracy. Encouraged by the fictional writings of Spider Robinson (who figured the Universal Postal Union was truly universal), Sullivan (never call him Sully) posts a notice on Facebook that he is willing to be abducted by aliens. His one transferrable skill is music.
A very ordinary looking alien accepts his offer, whisking him away to a Politically Correct planet (hinting at what the Earth could be like in a few more years).
Sullivan's Travels offers a satirical, psychological and humorous look at political correctness taken to extremes. A vegan planet, without pets or zoos, or money. Elections optional (like school boards). The novel comes in three parts - thesis, antithesis, and synthesis - followed by a brief prolog (making a sequel possible).
And like Ginsu Knives, there's more! Sullivan's Travels is book one in a trilogy. The second in the series, SULLIVAN'S LAW opens with an incompetent, avian alien reaching all the wrong conclusions about Earth culture, involving crossword puzzles and Sudoku. But that is another story.
