About the author:
I'm Lars Clausen, an engineer and a pastor who helps people achieve emotional and physical health. I use a method called The ICE Method which I explain in my latest book, FIBROMYALGIA RELIEF. The ICE Method works with the understanding that emotions and our physical well-being are closely connected through peptide molecules. These peptides molecules instruct the operation of our body. Peptides are formed in response to our emotions. Using a calming technique, The ICE Method helps people to turn off their fight-or-flight mechanism and change the chemistry of their body and their mind.

I developed The ICE Method by combining insights from scientific researchers Candace Pert, Bruce Lipton, and Joseph LeDoux. I had already been using a method called the Emotional Freedom Technique, (EFT or "Tapping"). The researchers that I studied helped me gain an understanding into what I believe actually happens in our body when we experience an emotion and our body begins to react. Developing this method has allowed me to help people overcome emotional issues of anxiety, grief, phobias, and other emotional upsets, as well as physical issues such as fibromyalgia, backpain, neuropathy, and more.

Prior to developing this focus on healing, I've experienced a variety of adventures in life including, growing up in Los Angeles, spending two years at the United States Air Force Academy, earning Master's degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Divinity, bicycling across the United States, serving as a pastor in Nome, Alaska, serving as a pastor at Michigan State University, setting a Guinness World Record for unicycling through all fifty of the United States, authoring ONE WHEEL - MANY SPOKES, and STRAIGHT INTO GAY AMERICA, managing a community garden, and raising two kids with my wife Anne.

As the years add up and I look at life from my fifties, I realize that my variety of experiences has made me an accessible person for many who are in need. Turn off your fight-or-flight response and you will feel better. Your fibromyalgia symptoms may decrease or disappear if you become aware of the state of calm. The paradoxical state of calm allows your body to turn off your fight-or-flight response and enjoy improved health. When your body is calm you produce a chemistry that allows your body to rest and heal. When you are in fight-or-flight mode your body chemistry focuses only on immediate survival. While fight-or-flight helps us survive danger, getting stuck in stress mode causes our health to suffer.

In this book you will learn what I call The ICE Method, based on the latest scientific discoveries of cell biology and neuroscience. A recent neuroscientific discovery called "memory reconsolidation" gives new possibilities for transforming stored emotions in the chemistry of your brain. You could find the information in this book elsewhere. I did. And you can find more experienced facilitators of healing than myself. I know a number of them. The reason I write this book is not because I have discovered anything unique. I write because I have combined a number of scientific insights that have allowed many people to experience relief. Millions of people in the United States, and many more around the world, suffer debilitating effects from fibromyalgia. As Fibromyalgia Specialist, Dr. Ginevra Liptan has stated in her book, Figuring Out Fibromyalgia; "medical science has not yet figured out how to turn off the switch of the stress response that gets stuck in the "on" position in fibromyalgia. When we do that we will have found a cure."
Since traditional Western medicine doesn't help a person turn off their stress response, the Western medical profession typically has rather limited success in treating fibromyalgia. I can show you a simple way to turn down your fight-or-flight response. Turn off your fight-or-flight stress response and you can begin to feel better. My goal and my wish are for everyone who has fibromyalgia to learn how easily you can turn off your fight-or-flight response.

Entering the calm state can often provide healing for body, mind, and spirit. As I will explain, most of what we react to in our daily lives can't actually physically hurt us (the overdue bill, the cranky boss, the whiny kids). We don't really need our body to go into fight-or-flight mode to respond to these situations. Fight-or-flight only truly needs to engage during a clear present physical danger (the proverbial tiger, or a bus about to run you over in a crosswalk). Unfortunately, most of us have learned to respond to overdue bills and other anxieties with the same fight-or-flight chemistry as when a real tiger attacks.

Far more than necessary, we live in an anxious state, yet in reality we face very few immediate physical threats that might cause us bodily harm. We actually don't need our fight-or-flight response turned on except for the rare immediate physical threat. If we could figure out how to turn off the fight-or-flight response, we would discover that it's almost always safe for our body chemistry to be calm. My goal is to show you how to do this.
