Second Spring

The Complete Topeka Capital-Journal Columns, 1997-2012

Authored by Naomi B. Patterson

In the span of over fifteen years, clinical psychologist Naomi B. Patterson contributed an ongoing column to the Topeka Capital-Journal. Originally conceived as a recurring feature for senior citizens under the banner "Second Spring," Patterson's topics quickly overran their supposed golden-years boundaries to cover an entertaining melange of topics, including childrearing, holidays, contemporary social issues, and fainting goats. Her approach was personal and often included her own reminiscences -- about childhood experiences, college life, motherhood, and even the embarrassing yet colorful pet deaths that occurred in her family. Assembled together for the first time, these essays provide a glimpse into the unique, humorous, poignant, and insightful mind of an extraordinary woman and deeply talented writer.
