Desert Nights

Authored by Courtney Stackhouse

Set over the course of four years, Desert Nights is a suspense thriller that centers around Tiny Huff, a woman we first meet in the throes of addiction - addicted both to substances and to a man named Kyle who lures her into an isolated life based on drugs and sex. When their relationship begins to crumble, Tiny realizes Kyle will do anything to control her and his desperation to keep her becomes dangerous. Tiny is forced to flee, abandoning her life in northern California for the southwest where she wanders aimlessly, breaking hearts while getting clean. Unbeknownst to her, every man she meets is in mortal danger as Kyle is not far behind her, and not yet ready to let her go.

Four years later, when Tiny finally settles down and reclaims her life, Kyle resurfaces and invades her home, imprisoning her in the cellar. He forces her to face the brutality of their shared history, and meet the men whose lives were shattered in her wake.

Desert Nights explores the various substances that can hijack the mind, be they sex, drugs or obsession. Tiny Huff jumps headlong into all three and finds out how hard it is to break free of obsession, and finds those around her are deadly-determined to keep her hooked and complacent. A psychological thriller about a woman attempting to reconcile her past while struggling with a volatile present.
