About the author:
Dr. Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra loved singing from childhood, and began playing the piano for classroom singing from third grade on. Ruiter-Feenstra teaches young children through post-doctoral students. She served as Professor of Music and Director of the Collegium Musicum at Bethany College and Eastern Michigan University, and as Senior Researcher at the Göteborg Organ Art Center in Sweden. Ruiter-Feenstra's passion for children, choral music, early music, liturgy, historic keyboard instruments, and improvisation coalesce in her vocation as performing and recording artist, pedagogue, composer, author, and conductor. Author of the acclaimed Bach and the Art of Improvisation (CHI Press) and artist of four CDs on organ and harpsichord (see and, Pamela developed Muse over a decade of working with children to nurture their imaginations, find their calm centers, to learn optimal self-care and care for the earth, and to find and cherish their own voices, as their singing provides a portal to lifelong learning. Among my favorite things: enjoying my cherished family, collecting burgundy- and amber-veined leaves on golden autumn days, leading ensembles to join their voices in song in transformative community, hearing the waves of Lake Michigan and feeling the sand and water dance over my toes, playing historic organs in northern Europe where the pure sounds feed my soul, learning new languages as musical communication in context, African hair braiding, ice skating and cross country skiing in remote places, to hear the range of "swish, chu, fluhn, and creech" sounds of ice and snow at varying conditions painting my eardrums.

Muse in Peace

Sing to Learn: Learn to Sing

Authored by Dr. Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra

Have you ever observed how children naturally muse? Musing is paying attention, the greatest gesture of love. Muse in Peace features multi-disciplinary songs about peace, respect, and world culture. When children sing of peacemakers Wangari Maathai, MLK Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, the Dalai Lama, and Mother Teresa, they can embody the change needed for peace within and world-wide. Muse offers memorable a cappella songs intended for preschool and elementary school-age children, appropriate for classroom use in public and private schools, home schools, and with your child individually. Muse enhances academics, builds life skills, develops imagination, and infuses academics with the arts for whole-person development. Self-calming techniques and movement with songs create important connections between the right and left hemispheres of the brain, which improves pattern recognition and coordination, while evoking wonder for the world.
