About the author:
Ray John de Aragón is an award-winning writer.
He worked as a Reading teacher in the schools.
He was also in charge of public school libraries.
De Aragón later worked as a bilingual resource
teacher. Then he became a bilingual program
director. He was honored and featured by the
New Mexico Association for Bilingual Education
during its conference in 2002. The New Mexico
Research and Study Council of the University of
New Mexico presented Ray John de Aragón with
its Quality Education Award in 2007.
Rosa María Calles received the Estrella Brillante
Award from the Hispanic Women's Council in
2006. She was also featured in NUESTRAS
MUJERAS, Our Women, a book chronicling
Hispanic Women in the history of New Mexico
from 1582 to 1992. This book was sponsored by
the New Mexico Quincentennial Commission and
the Center of Regional Studies of the University
of New Mexico. Calles received first place awards
for her artwork in San Diego and Monterey,
California. She was also featured in a traveling
exhibit that went to San Francisco, Chicago, New
York and San Juan Puerto Rico.
