Music CDs from McCaffrey Opland and Freeman

About the author:
Anne McCaffrey was a writer whose love of music was evidenced by its frequent appearance as a crucial element in her science fiction “world building.” Most of the lyrics in this collection appeared originally in various volumes of her classic novels of Pern.
Ms. McCaffrey lived in Co. Wicklow, Ireland.

Mike Freeman and Tania Opland are a trans-Atlantic duo from England and Alaska who have been touring together for many years, performing music from around the globe and across the centuries. They divide their time between Co. Kilkenny (Ireland), Alaska and Washington State (USA).

“The response was overwhelming when we released the Masterharper of Pern CD. It came mostly in the form of two often repeated questions: ‘Can we get sheet music for this?’ and ‘When will you do a recording of Menolly’s music?’ We’ll get to the second question later, but this songbook is the answer to the first. We had to make a lot of decisions about the notation … We’ve tried to find the heart of each arrangement, leave out the extras which would tend to make it more difficult to read, and keep the parts that will be most useful to most people. We hope we’ve at least come close to achieving that goal…

“As for the music of Menolly— our second Pern collaboration was released in 2009 and, as so many of you hoped, it is based on the Harperhall novels. Anne expanded some of her lyric snatches (as did we), and she found, among her old files, a complete Pern ballad she wrote in 1969 that had never been published. You’ll find all that on the CD Sunset’s Gold, available from”
