About the author:
Ludella Awad, 15, is an American high school
student at Albuquerque School of Excellence. Behind
The Covers, a collection of poetry, is Ms. Awad's first
publication. Ms. Awad, who is fluent in Arabic and is
studying Turkish, has been writing poetry since age
seven. She was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico,
on 26 August 1999 to Syrian-born parents. She is
inspired to write through her use of images. She says
she "writes from the heart" and sees images in
everything when she writes.

In her own words, "Writing is imagination,
creativity and emotions. Every writer should have
emotions and the imagination to write from the heart
of the image of everything in writing." She believes
"Imagination should be used not to escape reality,
but to create it."

"One of the greatest challenges in life is being
yourself in a world that's trying to make you like
everyone else."-AUTHOR UNKNOWN

Behind The Covers is about human beings and
the masks we wear every day. Everything is hidden
beneath the surface, behind the covers. Every human
being has a mask in his or her hands that is put on
every day to hide true feelings. Behind our faces, we
all have our weaknesses-in our hearts and our souls.
Only we know our own true face; we know ourselves,
and we must walk our own path. Behind each mask,
there is more than flesh; behind every mask, there
are ideas and the real you. In life, we are masked; we
are anonymous, Behind The Covers.
