About the author:
Dr. Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra loved singing as a child, and began playing the piano for classroom singing from third grade on. Pamela teaches young children through post-doctoral students. She served as Professor of Music and Director of the Collegium Musicum at Bethany College and Eastern Michigan University, and as Senior Researcher at the Göteborg Organ Art Center in Sweden. Ruiter-Feenstra's passion for children, choral music, early music, liturgy, historic keyboard instruments, and improvisation coalesce in her vocation as performing and recording artist, pedagogue, composer, author, and conductor. Author of the acclaimed Bach and the Art of Improvisation (CHI Press) and artist of four CDs on organ and harpsichord (see and, Pamela developed Muse over a decade of working with children to nurture their imaginations, find their calm centers, to learn optimal self-care and care for the earth, and to find and cherish their own voices, as their singing provides a portal to lifelong learning. Among my favorite things: enjoying my cherished family, collecting burgundy- and amber-veined leaves on golden autumn days, leading ensembles to join their voices in song in transformative community, hearing the waves of Lake Michigan and feeling the sand and water dance over my toes, playing historic organs in northern Europe where the pure sounds feed my soul, learning new languages as musical communication in context, African hair braiding, ice skating and cross country skiing in remote places, to hear the range of "swish, chu, fluhn, and creech" sounds of ice and snow at varying conditions painting my eardrums.

Muse at School

Sing to Learn: Learn to Sing!

Authored by Dr. Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra
Illustrated by Cayla Samano

Sing to Learn! Learn to Sing! Give your academics a sustainable boost with Muse at School! Make classroom concepts engaging with memorable songs about language, science, and math. Meet Mr. Noun, Mrs. Verb, and Captain Adverb in their explorations; discover a surprise Valentine's rhyme; sing about penguins, marsupials, volcanoes, rocks, land and water forms, and earth care; explore time cycles in songs about clocks days of the week, and months and seasons of the year.
Muse offers memorable a cappella songs intended for preschool and elementary school-age children, appropriate for classroom use in public and private schools, home schools, and with your child individually. Muse enhances academics, builds life skills, develops imagination, and infuses academics with the arts for whole-person development.
The purpose of Muse at School is to provide music as a vessel from which children can freely feed on the wonders of language and how it functions in communication, parts of speech, and in poetry; from which the imagination is nourished with questions about earth science, the environment, states of matter, and zoology; and from which children can drink from the cycling waters of time, explore the infinity of numbers, and ponder the mystery of spatial perception. Ultimately, embracing the earth and its inhabitants promotes the kindness and generosity present in the soul of each child.
