Participatory Photography and the Experience of Migration (Full Color Edition)

Authored by Ricardo Gomez, Sara Vannini

Fotohistorias (color version) is a participatory photography project that documents the life stories of migrants in the North, in the South, and at the US-Mexico Border, to help surface the richness, diversity and depth of their roots, experiences, and aspirations. As an example of what de Souza Santos calls Sociology of Emergence, this project offers a counter-narrative to the negative portrayals of migrants as criminals or free-riders, and rather demonstrates the power of their determination, re-values their human dignity, and celebrates their contribution to society.

The bilingual book features full-color photos by and about participants and their settings, as well as excerpts of their stories, in English and Spanish. All proceeds will go to Casa Latina ( in support of their mission.
