Keeping It Finer

What it Means to be a Finer Woman in the 21st Century-Anthology

Authored by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated

If you ever want to start a philosophical debate within Zeta, ask the question, "What does Finer Womanhood mean?" I've found that although nearly all Sorors find Finer Womanhood important, opinions differ as to what it truly is and when it should be used. Some may liken a Finer Woman to Proverbs 31, while others credit the lessons learned from their mothers. But what of the young lady who might have been taught that Finer Womanhood begins and ends with her looks? What about the young lady who doesn't regularly read the Bible? Still yet, how does a Soror display Finer Womanhood when dealing with difficult, often life-threatening situations?

This anthology helps to answer many of those questions. The Sorors in this book vary in age, experience, and backgrounds, but their views on Finer Womanhood are equally profound. From the highest leaders of Zeta to our undergraduates, from a World War II veteran, to teachers, to business women, to students, every woman represented between this book's covers shares a story that each of us can relate to.

I invite you to explore the wisdom of our International President Mary Breaux Wright, as well as five of our Past International Presidents. Sit at the knee of our Zeta Doves, some of whom have dedicated more than 60 years to our beloved Sisterhood. Reflect with Sorors who found Finer Womanhood to be a process that they continue to undergo well into their adult years.

You will find yourself laughing, crying, and sometimes even celebrating as you read these stories. May the stories and essays you read give you 2020 vision, helping us to lead Zeta into a new and exciting era. This is indeed an awesome time to be a Zeta!
