Scattergun McCuTRis was born and raised in Texas. He was the 15th of 27 children born to Harland and Louise McCuTRis. Scattergun was born in Alabama in 1948; and then again in Texas in 1959. He stands 7' 12" tall in his stocking feet. He has authored over 403 books about the Old West. Most of these depict the West the way it really was-with Texans dominating in everything.

Aside from being a super great author, Scattergun has also worked as a musician, cowboy, cowgirl, radio & television personality, champion kick boxer, TV repairman, brain surgeon, fashion model, auto mechanic and lactation counselor. He currently resides in Houston with his wife Millicent and their six basset hounds. Scattergun has 26 children and 97 ½ grandchildren.
