Authored by Lucy G. Thurston

Originally published in 1882. Lucy G. Thurston and her husband (Asa Thurston) were among the first company of Christian missionaries to arrive in the Hawaiian Islands in 1820. During the majority of her years in the Islands she and her husband were stationed in what is now known as Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. She lived and labored among the native Hawaiian population and witnessed the changes that brought about "The Great Awakening" of the Hawaiian people to Christianity and the advancement of their civilization. Much of this book is compiled from her personal letters and journals making this a very intimate view of the hawaiian people and the life of a missionary in the Hawaiian Islands - a life of faith and challenge for over 50 years.
