About the author:
Andrei Guruianu is a Romanian-born writer and professor of writing. The author of more than a dozen books of poetry and prose, his works often explore such topics as memory and forgetting, the role of art and of the artist, and the ability of place to shape personal and collective histories. He currently teaches in the Expository Writing Program at New York University.

Teknari is a Binghamton, NY-based artist whose recent photographic and digital works explore the potential of chance and random occurrence to add nuance and depth to personal expression through the use of his own handmade silver gelatin emulsion film. He believes that despite the full presence of the artist in the process, photography is a subconscious effort on the part of both photographer and model, becoming ultimately an act of liberation from the confines of convention.

The Darkest City

Authored by Andrei Guruianu, Teknari

"In the streets the children of the darkest city fight imaginary wars like all of the children before them and all of the children to come. Death and resurrection in the shadow of abandoned factories. Just ordinary miracles easily forgotten with a fresh change of clothes. When you ask any of them what they did all day, the answer is always Nothing, which is as honest as they will ever be, as any of us ever have been. They are not unhappy."
