Case Studies

Many music labels use our services in interesting, creative, and successful ways. Here’s what they have to say...

Back from the Vault

Opportunity:
The musical legacy of Blue Note Records is arguably one of the most influential and important in the history of recorded popular music. Blue Note was one of the largest, most successful independent labels of its time, but many of its titles were out of print.

Solution:
Using Disc On-Demand, Blue Note Records has recently unlocked their voluminous vault and re-released their collection. Blue Note titles now highlight Amazon’s “Back from the Vault” music store.

Results:
Over 200 formerly out of print treasures are now available, including landmark recordings from legendary artists such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Turrentine and many others.

Digital-Only Content

Opportunity:
Digital aggregators have thousands of albums that are “digital only;” that is, there is no physical copy of those albums available for purchase. Since digital music purchases accounted for 40% of overall music purchases in 2009 (Nielsen SoundScan), a significant number of consumers are being underserved for certain releases and may purchase a CD copy if one were available.

Solution:
Using our Disc on Demand program, digital aggregators like IODA, TuneCore, The Orchard, and others plan to make thousands of titles available for sale.

Results:
Over 10,000 new titles were added in 2009, many of which are available for the first time on CD.
