Dr. James Stathis & Cynthia Daddona

Culinary Artists / Producers, A Greek Islands Destination Cooking Class

Searching for a global, on-demand solution to distribute their celebrated Greek culinary travel documentary, husband and wife team Dr. James Stathis & Cynthia Daddona did not like the idea of giving a large percentage of their rights to a traditional distribution option. CreateSpace, part of the Amazon.com group of companies and a leader in DVD on Demand services, enabled the duo to produce and distribute their DVD, "A Greek Islands Destination Cooking Class," on Amazon.com and via their own websites, CelebrateGreece.com and RomancingTheTable.com, while keeping all of the rights and a larger percentage of the profits. Making their DVD available to millions of customers on Amazon.com combined with their independent marketing efforts helped their title become the #1 New York Times About.com culinary travel DVD.

A Greek Islands Destination Cooking ClassThe husband and wife duo, both of American-Greek heritage, produced "A Greek Islands Destination Cooking Class DVD," a culinary travel documentary covering a gourmet Greek food cooking class and its stunning location, the Greek island of Santorini. The documentary is hosted by Greco-Roman beauty Cynthia Daddona, an award-winning on-camera personality, author and food and travel journalist.
Stathis and Daddona were instantly attracted to CreateSpace's on-demand model because it allowed them to avoid the costs and risks of creating and storing inventory. The DVD on Demand service allowed them to reach Amazon.com's worldwide audience without having to worry about manufacturing, order fulfillment, or distribution.

"CreateSpace helped make our dreams of worldwide distribution come true!" said Stathis. "One of the biggest benefits of self-publishing through CreateSpace is the freedom to not be tied down with distribution hassles. The elimination of a warehouse or inventory storage is a huge expense and time saver for us. We wanted to know our DVD was selling and shipping even when we were sleeping and traveling. CreateSpace allows you to dream as big as you can."

CreateSpace's DVD on Demand service also gave the duo the opportunity to distribute their film in multiple formats - as a video download through Amazon UnBox, on DVD, or both. These options helped them achieve their goal of bringing entertaining programming highlighting Greek culture, food, travel and history to their specific audience at anytime, in a convenient and hassle-free manner.

The DVD has also garnered press attention from radio, print and online media outlets, including television interviews on ABC-TV and the FOX News affiliate during the New York City Greek Independence Day Parade and it also reached the Top 10 on Amazon.com's Unbox Video Downloads in multiple categories.

Stathis currently has 11 DVDs with CreateSpace, and because of the success he and his wife have seen from selling "A Greek Islands Destination Cooking Class" via Amazon.com and CreateSpace, the husband and wife team are looking to create many more DVD titles in the near future, including an inspirational, romantic documentary about finding true love later in life that includes coverage of the producers' own Greek island wedding.

"Our experience with CreateSpace has been very positive and we have found it to be an innovative resource," said Daddona. "For all of our fellow independent filmmakers, writers and creative minds it is a blessing that there is finally a way to make your talent known to the world, through CreateSpace. It worked for us, it can work for you!"
