5 Heroes of AIDS in Africa
Filmmaker Neil Halloran set out alone with a digital camera and laptop to southern Africa to create a documentary on the AIDS epidemic. His trip, and the documentary's message took an unexpected turn. Inspired by Africans fighting tirelessly to bring health to their people, the film takes a positive perspective on the greatest health crisis of our time.
5 Heroes of AIDS in Africa offers a glimpse into the the lives of five very different individuals who are battling AIDS on very different fronts. Mandla is an activist fighting for his people's rights. Makazi is a home-based care provider following a dream. Dr. Roux is a pediatrician and fundraiser. Juliet is the first in her town to go public with her HIV-positive status. Adelaide acts as a "mother of news" facilitating new projects in her community to address the psychological dimensions of HIV/AIDS.
AIDS in Africa is not solely a story about suffering and despair. It is also a place where we find courage hope, and an inspiring display of the human spirit.
