Do you use Wordpress? Beware HACKERS

If so, make sure you have updated to the latest version. There is a group called The Crows Crew that are hacking Wordpress sites -- they got my site yesterday and a friend of mine (also a small publisher) a few days ago. R.C's site is hacked too. Does anyone know how to get reach him aside from a PM?

I found a list of websites hit, and there are a lot of publishers and authors amongst them, so if you use Wordpress, make sure your version is always up to date.

Re: Do you use Wordpress? Beware HACKERS

Hey Michelle,

Thanks for the warning! I don't use Wordpress but a few of my friends do. I'll pass your message on to them.

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks Michelle, I've been out of touch for a bit but just got your PM and have resolved the issue.

Thanks for the heads up, Michelle.

Where, exactly, do you go on WordPress to update to the latest version?

Do you use WP org instead of com?  If I understand correctly, WP is supposed to handle updates and securities automatically with com, but it's up to the user with org.

Re: Do you use Wordpress? Beware HACKERS

At the top of your plugins page there should be a link to 'upgrade Wordpress' if you do not have the latest version. This latest hole is a root page manipulation so it should not have any effect on your site once you upgrade and all content should return to normal. Hopefully once the 12 yr old wannabe hackers have to go back to school the mass home page defacings will stop.

Re: Do you use Wordpress? Beware HACKERS

I was hacked and didn't know it until I brought up my site from my computer at work. The hacker had inserted a "payday loans" scrawl across my header and what made it so insidious was that it wasn't viewable from my own PC. I had to go into the header.php and reinstall the code. I've since updated my theme, So far, so good.

I'm using Word Press TwentyTen with a slideshow header of my own wildlife photographs. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Re: Do you use Wordpress? Beware HACKERS

I admin many sites and all are attacked just about every day by hackers. I use a plugin called "Better WP Security" but you have to be careful not to lock yourself out of your own site. If you use it, or another security plugin, make sure to read all the setup and it's safeguards.
